Per-capita value of military transfers. Click to enlarge.

Over the course of the last few decades, the role of police in American life has undergone a sea change. One notable aspect of that change has been the increased militarization of local law enforcement agencies. The map to the left shows the per capita amount of military surplus equipment sent to each county in the US in recent years. Click here for an interactive map to learn more about those transfers.

I am currently working on research into the consequences of modern policing, especially as they implicate racial cleavages in American cities. I will post results and working papers here as they become available.
